Jacob Joined the Rebel Alliance as a Starfighter Pilot 15 Some odd Years ago where he Excelled through the Ranks Eventually achiving the Rank of Lieutenant General, and Head of the SFC. Jacob eventually developed an interest in Intel work and then transfered over and assumed command of the NRI upon its Inception.

Shortly There after he was Brought up on Trumped up charges (Including but not limited to): Grand theft Starcruiser, Embezzlement, Gross Insubordination (This one isnt Trumped up) and several others, Skyrocketing him to the #1 Most wanted Republic Fugitive. (He was also wanted by the Empire for his acts as an NR Commander)

Being Faced with certain Imprisionment and possible Death he Flees with a Crew of Loyal Friends and his Elite Task Force: The Guardian Angels, then only a team of 20.
While being on the Run he and his Angels carried out many Operations within New Republic and Imperial Space that neither Government Deemed worthy of working on. They survived like that for over 8 Years.
